Should books be digitized? -- Yes, digitization has lots of advantages. It can make books instantly accessible to remote readers at times when libraries are closed. It also makes the content searchable.

Overview

ScanTailor is an interactive post-processing tool for scanned pages. It performs operations such as page splitting, deskewing, adding/removing borders, and others. You give it raw scans, and you get pages ready to be printed or assembled into a PDF or DJVU file. Scanning, optical character recognition, and assembling multi-page documents are out of scope of this project.

Overview

decapod is a project focused on building a low-cost digitization solution that will allow for rare materials, materials held in collections without large budgets, and other scholarly content to be digitized into a high-quality PDF format. This project will work to incorporate the hardware and software necessary to accomplish this goal.

This is the home page and the documentation wiki of the BookLiberator project. BookLiberator is a set of free software and hardware to digitize books: it lets you photograph all the pages in a book without harming the book. The resulting images can be processed with free, open source software to make user-friendly files in a variety of formats.

Overview

This document is a work in progress.

The BookLiberator project will include software to assist in the creation of electronic books from printed source material. This software will generally be used on a personal computer, independent of the BookLiberator device itself, to process the images captured on the BookLiberator.
